Hello! My name is Teresa Proaño and I am running for Daly City Council this November 2024. On April 1, 2024, I was appointed as a Daly City Council Member, which as a lifelong Daly City resident, was an especially proud moment for me. Since being sworn in, I have collaborated with my fellow council members to serve the residents of Daly City. My extensive years of experience in volunteerism, where I have worked with members of the community on committees and commissions, has given me the tools needed to excel as a Daly City Council member for years to come.
I truly believe in Daly City, its residents, and what our city represents. The beauty of our multicultural community is reflected in our businesses, restaurants, and our city-organized events. I sincerely believe in and practice kindness, compassion, and empathy. I value the diverse opinions and perspectives of my peers and follow community members — we are all one city. Naturally, there are times where these perspectives do not align, but I believe in listening, asking questions, and working through any issues that may arise. Most importantly, I always operate with respect, understanding, and integrity.
I grew up in Daly City with my parents (my father, Rafael Lopez, is a first generation immigrant from Jalisco, Mexico), six brothers and sisters, and surrounded by many aunts, uncles and a multitude of cousins, many of whom are still residents of Daly City. I attended kindergarten at Vista Grande Elementary School, grammar school at Colma Elementary, and after at Colma Intermediate. I then attended Jefferson High School, graduating in 1979. It was there that I met my husband, Gustavo, who I later married in 1980. We purchased our home in Daly City in 1986 and raised our 3 children here. While our children were young, I attended Skyline College in the evenings and graduated in 1999 with honors, later taking courses at San Francisco State. We have since been blessed with six grandchildren and enjoy spending time with them and our dog, Lucy.
I sincerely believe that I can make a difference in my community, in my home, which is why I am running this November to complete my term as Daly City Council Member.
